Why your offer is not filling

Ten reasons your buy or sell offer is sitting idle. Run through them in this order. The first three account for around 80% of stuck offers.

1. Your price is on the wrong side of the spread

Most stuck offers come down to mispricing. If you are trying to buy at the insta-sell price exactly, you are matched in a queue with everyone else trying the same. If you are below it, you wait for the market to drop into your offer, which often does not happen.

Fix: bump your buy by 1 GP for cheap items or 0.1 to 0.5% for expensive ones. You jump the queue and fill within minutes instead of hours.

2. The price moved away from your offer

You set a buy at 8,500 when the market was there. Twenty minutes later the market is at 8,800 and rising. Your offer is now well below the action and will not fill until the market dips back, which may take hours or days.

Fix: cancel and re-list at the new market level. You lose nothing because cancelled offers do not count against the buy limit.

3. The item just does not have volume

A 5M margin on an item that trades 8 units a day means most flippers ignore it. There simply are not enough sellers willing to insta-sell to you. The flip exists on paper but not in practice.

Fix: check daily volume before committing capital. Anything under 100 daily volume is rarely worth the wait. More on volume thresholds.

4. Your buy limit is exhausted

You already bought your full 4-hour allowance for this item, possibly hours ago. The new offer cannot fill until the cooldown resets. The game does not warn you, the offer just sits.

Fix: check the timer. The 4-hour buy limit timer starts when your first offer filled, not when you placed it.

5. You are queued behind a bigger flipper

Multiple players placed offers at the same price. The GE matches in submission order. If a flipper before you has 5,000 units they want, the next 5,000 trade volume goes to them, not you.

Fix: bump your offer 1 GP up to jump the queue. On expensive items, sometimes 100 GP up.

6. The item is in a downtrend and you bought too high

You bought thinking the price would hold. The market kept dropping. Your sell offer is now above the current insta-buy price and stuck.

Fix: two options. Cancel and accept the loss, sell at the new insta-buy. Or hold and wait for the price to recover, which can take days. Holding only makes sense if you have evidence the dip is temporary, not a structural shift.

7. The item went out of fashion

A piece of meta gear got nerfed. Demand collapsed. The old margin no longer exists. Your sell offer at the old price will not fill until either the price rises back or you cancel.

Fix: cancel and re-list at the new market level. Take the smaller margin or the loss. The longer you wait, the worse the price can get.

8. You priced inside the spread by mistake

You meant to buy at insta-sell (8,500) but typo'd 9,500, which is on the sell side. The offer fills the wrong way or sits idle if there are no immediate sellers at that price.

Fix: always double-check the price before confirming. The GE shows what side the offer will land on if you watch the visualisation.

9. The item is a quest reward or untradeable variant

Some items have multiple variants. A "(charged)" version may not match the "(uncharged)" listing you are looking at. Untradeable variants will not appear in the GE at all.

Fix: verify the exact item name and any modifier in parentheses. The Wiki page for the item lists tradeable status clearly.

10. GE servers are slow or restarted

Rarely, the GE backlog gets long during high-traffic events. Your offer is in queue but not being processed quickly. Restarts can also delay matching by a few minutes.

Fix: wait 5 to 10 minutes. If the issue persists across multiple offers and items, check the OSRS status page or world hopping might help on rare occasions.

The 80% rule. Most stuck offers are mispricing or volume problems. If your offer has been idle more than 30 minutes, the answer is almost always to cancel, check volume and current spread, and re-list.

Pre-empting stuck offers

Before placing the offer, ask three questions:

  1. Does this item trade enough volume for my expected fill time?
  2. Is my price actually competitive against the current spread?
  3. Have I already used my buy limit on this item?

Two minutes of checking saves an hour of waiting on a doomed offer.

Avoid stuck offers automatically

GE IQ flags low-volume items, shows your buy limit timers, and ranks flips by realistic fill time. Most of the reasons above never apply if you start from a healthy item.
